How I Started Monetizing My Blog

Ever since I was a child I have always enjoyed writing. In elementary school each year I focused on writing a book. Of course, at that time I was using a notebook and pencil, so edits and rewrites really took up a lot of my time.

As I got older I became obsessed with the idea of starting a blog. It sounded like the dream job. I would be getting paid to write about my life and things that I enjoy. I'd also get to share my interests with countless readers. I would fantasize often about how lovely it would be to have my own blog. I even started one when I was right out of high school, but when it came to monetizing it I had no clue where to begin.

Eventually, as college went on I looked more into running advertisements or sponsorships, but it just all seemed so overwhelming and I had no idea where to even start. So, I eventually stopped using the blog I had come to love.

Fast forward to this year. I was talking to my husband about how I would still love to have a blog, but that I had no idea how to monetize it, so it just felt like a dream.

In June, I stumbled across a TikTok of this woman claiming she was able to start making money from her phone. She was talking big bucks, like $1,000+ a day. My interest was peaked. I looked into what she had to offer, and it was affiliate marketing. However, the program she was offering was well out of my price range, so I just went back to leisurely scrolling my FYP.

A couple of weeks later, another woman popped up on my TikTok talking about the affiliate marketing course she was taking. I reflected back on that other woman's earnings and couldn't help myself but to look into this course. Holy cow, it only cost $7. I was sold. I mean who better to invest in than yourself, and for such a low price why not at least try?

Now let me explain what affiliate marketing is, in the simplest way possible companies pay you to promote their products. It is a win-win. They get new customers and you get paid for promoting a product you stand behind!

This course goes much deeper into what affiliate marketing is and how you can get started. It also shows you how to create your own digital products to sell. I was more interested in just the affiliate marketing so that's what I leaned into. I was assigned a business plan advisor who worked with me to come up with a successful business plan that I could implement on my own.

The course even explains how to set up your new online business so that once it is up and running it can be managed from your phone in 2-3 hours a day. I was stoked! If a commission rolls in while I'm doing the dishes that would be amazing!

The course was completely self paced, but set up to be completed in just 15 days. So, of course, I finished it in 15 days. I applied for my first affiliate program and created a new Instagram to promote it! Now, don't think this is a get rich quick scheme. There is some real money to made by being an affiliate, but it requires consistency and determination.

Just 4 weeks in, I was able to make back to the $7 investment. Now everything is pure profit. So that got me thinking. How else could I promote products that I am affiliated with? That's when it hit me: BLOGGING. My dream. The perfect scenario.

I wasn't going to have to keep up with running advertisements or figure out how to even get a sponsorship. I could talk about products or things I love and promote them through my blog!

That leads us here, to my first blog post. The $7 course I took about affiliate marketing has led me right into my dream position.

What will it do for you? It could even just be as small as a few extra hundred dollars a month. Think of how an extra $500, $1,000, $5,000, or more could change your life. Heck, Christmas is coming up. Imagine being able to give abundantly to those you love without it impacting your current budget. With affiliate marketing you really get out what you put into it, but it has the power to give you FREEDOM. Not just financial freedom, but the freedom to do what you want with your time. It allows you to take control of your life.

I would gladly spend that $7 again and again for what it has done for me. Not only financially, but also mentally and emotionally. It has given me a whole new outlook on life. Things I thought were just a dream are becoming a reality.

So, why not invest in yourself? There is no one better to invest in.
